Congratulations to Pooh in celebration of 40 years in the music business! It is quite an accomplishment to keep any business going for so long yet alone the music business. Your love of music and musicians shows daily in your endeavors. Three Albums: The first album I can recall was called Meet The Beatles or it could have been called With The Beatles. I was only 4 or 5 years old at the time and it has long since disappeared. I remember sitting on my sisters' bed and singing along and knowing every word to every song. I Wanna Hold Your Hand was a particular favorite of mine at the time. I didn't realize it at the time, but that record had a major impact on me. The second record would be one called The Mountaineers. It was a bluegrass record that my brother-in-law gave to me. He was a major influence in my life and is the reason I started playing music. It was already old and scratched when I received it but I wore it out nonetheless. I was 11 years old at that time. My third album choice is much more difficult. There are so many in my life that have had an impact on me. From James Taylor to Neil Young to Robben Ford to Larry Carlton to Doc Watson to Earl Scruggs,, Santana, Earth, Wind and Fire, Oscar Castro-Neves, the list is endless... I suppose I would choose An Evening With John Denver. I recall enjoying the pure honesty in his voice. Because he was always for "squares" I would listen when my friends weren't around. And when they were around we would listen to Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult, Dark Side Of The Moon, Dylan, CSNY etc... It was quite ironic that I wound up playing guitar for John Denver. POOHさん、40周年おめでとうございます。こんなにも長い間、音楽ビジネスだけで仕事を続けてこられたというのは、まさしく素晴らしい業績です。あなたの日々の努力の中には音楽やミュージシャンへのあなたの愛が窺えます。 私の好きな３枚のアルバム 最初のアルバムは、『Meet The Beatles』あるいは『With The Beatles』と呼ばれたビートルズの(ファースト)アルバムです。その時、私はまだほんの４、５歳でしたが、アルバムを紛失してから随分になります。私の姉のベッドの上に乗ってレコードに合わせて歌っていました。どの曲の歌詞も覚えていましたが、「I Wanna Hold Your Hand(邦題: 抱きしめたい)」は、当時の私にとって特に大好きな歌でした。その頃の私は歌の意味なんて理解できていませんでしたが、それでもこのアルバムは私にとって物凄いインパクトを持っていたのです。 ２枚目のアルバムは『The Mountaineers』というアルバム。私の義理の兄弟がくれたブルーグラスのレコードです。彼は私の人生に多大な影響を与えた人物で、私が音楽を演奏し始めのも彼の存在があったからです。そのレコードは貰った時すでにノイズも出るような使い古しのものでしたが、私は更に擦り減るほど聴いたのです。11歳の時の事です。 ３枚目を選ぶのは困難を極めました。私の人生においてインパクトを与えたアルバムは本当に沢山ありますからね。ジェイムズ・テイラーからニール・ヤング、ロベン・フォードからラリー・カールトン、ドック・ワトスンからアール・スクラッグス、サンタナ、EW&F、オスカー・カストロ・ネヴィス。名前を挙げていったらキリがありません。 (それで結局)ジョン・デンヴァーの『An Evening With John Denver』を選ぶことにしました。思い返せば、私は彼の歌声の中にピュアな誠実さを感じ、１人で居る時は彼の歌を好んで聴いていました。でも、彼は一般的に「型にはまった大人たち」に支持されていたアーティストだったので、友達が周りに居る時は (「ジョン・デンヴァーが好きなのか。ダサい野郎だ」などと言われるのがイヤで)決して聴きませんでした。友達と一緒の時は、もっぱらレッド・ツェッペリン、キッス、ブルー・オイスター・カルト、(ピンク・フロイドの)『Dark Side Of The Moon』、ボブ・ディラン、CSN&Y等を聴いていたのです。 そんな私が(後年)ジョン・デンヴァーために(彼をサポートするバンドのメンバーとして)ギターを弾くことになるとは、本当に世の中わからないものです。
